In
July, the Costa Rican government announced the
plans to construct a new international airport
in Valle del Sierpe. President Oscar Arias, the
Public Works Minister and the President of the
Southern Zone Regional Development Board all
signed documents in July to permit the
construction of the airport. The first stage of
construction includes an 1800 meter runway to
accommodate airplanes carrying up to 50
passengers. The second stage includes equipping
the airport to handle larger 737-style aircraft.
The airport will be about 45 minutes north of
Golfito and Villa Ives
Kena.
With the new airport and the additional
developments, real estate prices in the South
Pacific region of Costa Rica will appreciate
significantly. Work has also started on the new
marina and waterfront condos at Bahia Escondido.
Waterfront condos are selling for
$500,000-$1,000,000 each. This development will
draw wealthy boaters and sport fishermen to the
area and transform Golfito from a small port
town into a new destination for tourists and
expatriates.

There are more than 40 developments in various
stages of completion in the Central Pacific.
This is the busiest development area in Costa
Rica. Property values have INCREASED BY 50-100%
in 2006 alone.
Construction has started on the new highway
between the Central Pacific Coast and the
international airport in San Jose. The
developments are in various stages of completion
with Paradigma leading the pack with 14 projects
in the Central Pacific.
Because of the aforementioned growth, real
estate in Costa Rica has appreciated between
20-50% annually for the last ten years. The
areas experiencing the most growth and
development are in the North and Central Pacific
because of the close proximities to the
international airports in Liberia San Jose.

The secret is out about Golfito!
Golfito is the type of town that reminds
many buyers of the picturesque fishing
villages in Greece, Italy and Sardinia.
Golfito combines the best qualities of
those quaint towns with the Western
culture necessities such as grocery
stores, pharmacies, internet cafes, video
stores, discos, bars, restaurants and
resorts. There is also a small hospital, a
university and an airport with regular
airline service from Sansa airlines.
Golfito is bordered by the protected
Corcovado rainforest, which is ripe for
eco-tourist activity. With breathtaking
flora and fauna, nature lovers can spend
endless hours hiking through the forest’s
many trails. |
